The Most Important Day of Your Life

Filed under: General Wedding Thoughts — by Wedding Expert @ 7:00 am

We wanted to address here the popular notion that your wedding day is the “most important” day of your life, or the “happiest” day.

While we love weddings (hey, we write about them almost daily) and find them incredibly romantic, we do want to say that these are exactly the kind of beliefs that put a lot of unnecessary pressure on brides and grooms.

Your wedding day is of course an important day. It’s a day that signifies an important commitment to the person you love and for many it also signifies the intent to start a family at some point. It’s also a special day simply because for once, you get to be the center of attention and spend more than you would ever spend to make yourself look pretty. Getting married is an amazing experience!

However, there are many others moments and milestones in life that will take your breath away with excitement and joy. Many of them have to do with children, having kids and raising them and witnessing their milestones. Others have to do with your career, with other family members, with doing things that you love and are important to you, and with reaching milestones in your marriage and sharing life with another person for many years and through lots of ups and downs.

So remember: your wedding day is an important day, and it probably makes you feel a weird mix of happiness, excitement, irritability and stress – and that’s OK. But take the pressure off yourself and try to relax: it’s one special day in a life full of special days, moments and milestones.

Second Wedding Dresses

ivory-wedding-gownIf this is your second marriage, someone is bound to tell you that you should not wear a white wedding dress, since white symbols purity and, well, you’re obviously not pure anymore.

You should ignore such advice. Today’s white wedding dresses are a symbol of joy and celebration, not of virginity. In addition, these days almost everything goes (we say “almost” because we’re still not too fond of black wedding gowns).

If you feel like wearing a white wedding gown for your second wedding, then by all means, go ahead and wear a white wedding gown!

If you don’t want to wear white, perhaps because you want this wedding to feel different than the first, you do have other options. Pastels, ivory and off-white, such as the dress above from Atlanta wedding dress maker Anya Bridal, are very popular color choices for a second wedding dress.

Many second-time brides go with simple, chic wedding gowns and forgo more elaborate styles. A white tailored suit is also a great option, as are a tea-length or a cocktail dress.

The only real fashion “don’t” for a second wedding is wearing a blusher veil that covers the face – this really is more appropriate for a young, first-time bride. Instead, opt for a chic hat or add a pretty hair ornament to your hairdo.

How to Avoid New Bride Weight Gain: Part Two

Filed under: Bridal Weight Loss — by Wedding Expert @ 7:00 am

Not going on a crash diet before the wedding and understanding that maintaining a healthy weight is important for YOU, are two ways you can avoid gaining weight after you’re married. Here are a few more tips:

Don’t Eat Like He Does

Remember that women generally need less calories than men do. It’s fine to cook and sit together to eat, but serve yourself a smaller portion, and make sure there are healthy options for you to choose from.

Sooth Emotions with Indulgences Other Than Food

It’s very normal to feel a bit down after the wedding and the honeymoon are over. But your pick-me-up should never be food. Instead, go for walks, talk with friends, or pamper yourself with a manicure.

Don’t Go Wild On Your Honeymoon

Wild on food, we mean. :) If your honeymoon is just a few days long, it may not matter much, but if you’re looking at 10 days of overindulging in fatty foods and too much alcohol, there will be a price to pay, and once you’ve put on those pounds, it is going to be very difficult to go back to a healthy lifestyle.

It’s fine to indulge during your honeymoon, of course, but try not to lose control completely. A good compromise would be indulging in one daily meal and keeping the other meals small and healthy. Also, if you can find a way to incorporate fun exercise into your honeymoon (swimming, surfing), that would be a great help in keeping you in shape.
