How to Avoid New Bride Weight Gain: Part Two

Filed under: Bridal Weight Loss — by Wedding Expert @ 7:00 am

Not going on a crash diet before the wedding and understanding that maintaining a healthy weight is important for YOU, are two ways you can avoid gaining weight after you’re married. Here are a few more tips:

Don’t Eat Like He Does

Remember that women generally need less calories than men do. It’s fine to cook and sit together to eat, but serve yourself a smaller portion, and make sure there are healthy options for you to choose from.

Sooth Emotions with Indulgences Other Than Food

It’s very normal to feel a bit down after the wedding and the honeymoon are over. But your pick-me-up should never be food. Instead, go for walks, talk with friends, or pamper yourself with a manicure.

Don’t Go Wild On Your Honeymoon

Wild on food, we mean. :) If your honeymoon is just a few days long, it may not matter much, but if you’re looking at 10 days of overindulging in fatty foods and too much alcohol, there will be a price to pay, and once you’ve put on those pounds, it is going to be very difficult to go back to a healthy lifestyle.

It’s fine to indulge during your honeymoon, of course, but try not to lose control completely. A good compromise would be indulging in one daily meal and keeping the other meals small and healthy. Also, if you can find a way to incorporate fun exercise into your honeymoon (swimming, surfing), that would be a great help in keeping you in shape.

Tips for Avoiding New Bride Weight Gain: Part One

Filed under: Bridal Weight Loss, Uncategorized — by Wedding Expert @ 7:00 am

In our last post, we discussed the phenomenon of the new bride weight gain and saw that in many ways, it seems almost inevitable for a new bride to gain at least a few pounds after tying the knot.

However, unless you were severely underweight on your wedding day (and we certainly hope that wasn’t the case), there’s certainly no reason to gain 20 pounds during the first year after getting married!

Here are a few tips for avoiding the notorious new bride weight gain:

Don’t starve yourself before the wedding.

If you go on an extremely strict diet before your wedding, you WILL end up gaining it all back, simply because this is how our bodies work – when we starve them, they have a way of fighting back, hanging onto every calorie, slowing their metabolism down and causing us to experience serious food cravings. Instead of going on a crash diet before your wedding, if you need to lose weight, go on a sensible diet – don’t try to lose more than 1-2 pounds per week.

Try to avoid the state of mind that says “I’m married now, I don’t have to work so hard anymore to look good.”

Remember that you need to eat healthfully and exercise for YOU, because a healthy lifestyle and a healthy weight will make you feel good, have more energy and possibly even live longer. When you eat well and exercise, you’re not doing it for others – you’re doing it for yourself, and so your marital status has nothing to do with it.

New Bride Weight Gain

Filed under: Bridal Weight Loss — by Wedding Expert @ 7:00 am

The Daily Mail has recently reported that 20% of all British new brides put on a whopping 20 pounds in the first year after getting married.

There are many reasons for this weight gain. Some women just don’t care anymore – they don’t think they need to put the same amount of effort into looking good after tying the knot. Other women find it hard to stick with the strict diet they were likely on before the wedding. Instead of finding a middle road, they start overeating.

For some women, the anticlimax that comes after the wedding can only be dealt with via comfort food, and yet others overindulge during the honeymoon, and once the honeymoon is over, never quite find the strength to go back to a healthy diet.

Another factor in new bride weight gain is that many women start cooking for the first time, and join their husbands (who as men burn more calories) in eating heavy dinners. A woman who used to be satisfied with a 500-calorie dinner of yogurt and some pretzels could start consuming 1000-calorie meals every night.

So how do you avoid this weight gain, that seems almost inevitable for some new brides? Stay tuned for our next blog post, where we will feature tips for avoiding the notorious new bride weight gain.
