Mother of the Bride Dresses

As the mother of the bride, you are the center of attention. Not as much as your daughter perhaps, but you are definitely feeling the pressure to look good! Here are a few tips for choosing the best mother of the bride dress:

1. We’re not advocates of the frilly, flowery look in the photo on the left. We believe simple is better, because it is elegant and modern and does not age you.

2. It’s best to avoid white – let it be the color of the bride. Also, unlike other wedding guests, black is not advisable for the mother of the bride.

3. Try to choose a color that complements the wedding theme.

4. Choose a color that works well with your skin tone. For cool skin tones, pinks, purples and blues look great. For warm skin tones, browns, oranges and yellows are generally best.

5. It’s best to avoid dresses with busy prints and choose solid colors instead. Busy prints are aging and don’t photograph well.

6. It doesn’t have to be a dress at all: a suite is fine, and depending on the formality of the wedding and on your figure, a pantsuit can look fresh and modern.

Remember: you should let the mother of the groom know the color and style of your dress as soon as you’ve picked yours, so that she can find a complimentary dress.
